BMW sued for Giving a Boner

Leon Haslam riding BMW hard

BMW Motorrad USA and Custom motorcycle saddle maker, Corbin  are being sued after a  rider in California found his BMW motorcycle gave him a persistent, lasting erection because of its custom Corbin-Pacific seat, on which he sat for a total of four hours.  If BMW is found liable, they will owe him money for lost wages, personal injury, medical expenses, product liability and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

   The complaint reads:
"Plaintiff was riding his 1993 BMW motorcycle equipped with a Corbin-Pacific seat. The ride lasted approximately two hours each way to plaintiff's destination, after which plaintiff developed a severe case of priapism (a persistent, lasting erection). Plaintiff alleges that this condition was caused by the ridge-like seat on his motorcycle, negligently designed, manufactured and/or installed by defendants.
"Plaintiff now suffers from priapism (a long lasting erection), and has been experiencing continuing problems since his motorcycle ride. He is now unable to engage in sexual activity, which is causing him substantial emotional and mental anguish. Plaintiff is distraught and distressed because of this. Defendants, and each of them, are liable to plaintiff due [to] their negligent design, manufacture and/or installation of the seat on plaintiff's motorcycle."

Definition of Scooter

About a year ago, I wrote about Aprilia Mana 850 motorcycle being used by Chinese police at my personal website. Then, I was told by one of HFL contributors that Mana850 is not a motorcycle but a scooter with bit of condescending tone. I guess his definition of scooter is to have automatic transmission, CVT to be exact. My definition of scooter is close to what California Department of Motor Vehicles Motorcycle Handbook says, "any two-wheeled device that has a motor, handlebars, and a floorboard for standing on when riding" I would also add relatively, smaller engine displacement and motor being placed at rear of the vehicle. By the way, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) "doesn't define the terms “motor scooter,” “moped,” “pocket bike,” “mini-chopper,” “mini-ninja,” or any other terms of this nature that may be used for the purpose of marketing motorcycles and motor driven cycles." but in the same document, they talk about how to import "small motor-scooters"....
Confusing...Anyway, Piaggio Gilera GP 800 is a scooter,( motor is placed in rear of the vehicle and there are floor boards.) but Aprilia Mana 850 is a motorcycle to me. Even Aprilia website calls it motorcycle; it is not in Scooter section.
Piaggio Gilera GP 800

I could see some people have problem accepting Mana 850 as a motorcycle though. The gear system is pretty much of scooter technology, and its gas tank is located under seat like scooter's. I generally enjoy riding any 2 wheelers. I don't discriminate.

Nitro Nori

I am a big fan of Noriyuki Haga. He currently races at British Super Bike with Swan Yamaha. He is not shining there right now while his team mate stays competitive with the same bike.  He was a few points short of being a champ a few times at WSBK
I sure hope he comes back to WSBK. He is a champ without the title.

Debbie Evans

Debbie Evans is considered one of Hollywood's top stunt women. She began riding motorcycles at the age of six and started competing in the sport of motorcycle trials at the age of nine. By 1976, she became the first woman to reach the rank of expert, successfully competing against the men. She earned a sponsorship from Yamaha and would do halftime shows at various stadium events, which included her famous headstand on the seat of a balancing motorcycle. Her stunt career began when Debbie was called to do a motorcycle jump over a 30-foot ravine for the movie Deathsport (1978) and really broke through when she tied for second overall in the 1979 CBS Stunt Competition as the only female competitor. Since then, She has done just about every type of stunt imaginable, including setting the world long and high jump records for an air ramp.""Debbie was inducted October 2003 into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. She has been awarded for her work on Taxi in 2005, The Matrix Reloaded in 2004 Taurus World Stunt Awards in the category "Best Overall Stunt by a Stuntwoman," previously winning two Taurus awards in 2002 for driving a Honda Civic under a moving semi-truck in The Fast and the Furious." Happy 42nd

Jason Lee is a big supporter and a friend of Ian Barry, who started Falcon Motorcycles.

He actually owns those bikes he is sitting on, but I heard he has sold the Honda.

Roma Scooter

I spotted this scooter the other day (yes, it is a scooter) It is called, Roma Hornet scooter and cost you about 2 gran. if you put them together by yourself it is about 1800 bucks. The price depends on the site you pick.. There are a quite a few on-line scooter stores that sell this thing, but none of the sites really states where this thing was made. I am assuming it is from China. I guess it is targeted toward young kids who want sporty look. The bike comes with those decals. Haha I wonder Valsir,
Pirrelli, Shell and other companies know that they are secretly sponsoring  this scoot... Despite the sporty look, the power unit, 150cc 4 Stroke Single Cylinder, cranks only 7 HP and Max speed is probably less than 60mph. The  front disc brake might be over kill for this beast. Sadly, review of this bike is not very good.it can be a nice toy to have it around.

Classic Cape style MC garage

Pictured above is a 12’ x 16’ Classic Cape style shed with a sliding barn door. Probably not for working on bikes but nice to park them in it. The kit of 12’ x 16’ costs like 3800 bucks. Via: Storageshedkits.com

Why and How I built a VW motorcycle

Kenny Howard, who was known as Von Dutch bet his friend Dick Betts that he could build the VW Beetle motor powered motorcycle in a year's time, and Betts bet Dutch he could build an Indy car in the same time period. They both completed their projects in a year, and they both threw a joint party to celebrate their accomplishments, and that party lasted for a complete non-stop weekend, they say.
