Tractor Cycle

"DEVELOPED primarily for operation over rough ground, a new type of motorcycle invented by J. Lehaitre, of Paris, France, features a tractor-type drive belt as its means of locomotion in place of conventional wheels. Named the “tractor-cycle” by the inventor, the novel vehicle is said to be superior to an ordinary motorcycle in its ability to climb steep and rough grades, although its speed on level ground is limited to about 25 m.p.h. Steering is accomplished by handlebars which control a sideways motion of the drive belt. The tractor-cycle could easily be adapted for military use, as depicted on the cover of this issue by a Modern Mechanix artist. Fitted with a machine gun, the cycle could be used by dispatch riders or entire military units to travel over shell-torn terrain."

It was developed in 1938, I still don't get how to steer this thing....

Sponsors

"French rider Hugo Payen was sponsored by a French 'adult film' producer for this year's Dakar, resulting in an unusual paint job...!"

 Via: MCN

A few years ago,  a socialite, Pris Hilton sponsored Moto3 team, which its bikes ended with full of baby blue, baby pink and stars paint job. Many of motorsports fans complained, calling the bikes Barbie bikes. I never understood the mentality of it. Sponsors are sponsors; they are giving you  valuable resources to race.  So who cares?  If they are giving me money to race, I don't care if the sponsor is selling penis enlarger, feminine hygiene products, or adult diaper.    Better than not being able to afford a part.

Accident caused by Side luggage

A test rider of French website Motojournal, Laurent Cochet nickname Lolo forgot that there were huge motorcycle luggages attached to the test subject, Yamaha FJR 1300 and ended up dropping the bike at the Port of Saint Martin en Ré.

It is important to remember how big your vehicle is. I have almost done the similar thing once to my friend's bike (happened to be a big Yamaha as well)

Scooter Rampage from Taxi

Scooter race scene from TAXi (1998), directed by Luc Besson and starring Samy Naceri as Daniel, a pizza delivery boy turned taxi driver who becomes a driver for a police detective. I actually posted this at other blog I was contributing but worth a post here.

Rock'n Solex

Solex was a French manufacturer of carburetors and the powered bicycle VéloSoleX. The bike( should be categorized as moped since it has pedals) has a 49cc 2 stroke motor mounted on the front wheel. Power is delivered via a small ceramic roller that rotates directly on the front wheel by friction to the tire.

The race looks fun. The brick road and rain don't go well for 2 wheelers. I have been there.

Garage to Apartment

Jérémie Buchholtz wanted an affordable apartment in Bordeaux (he's a photographer who splits his time between Paris and Bordeaux so his budget was limited), but he wasn't finding anything he liked. Then he stumbled upon a listing for a garage.

There was no house, it was just an abandoned garage for sale. And it looked like one. It had big metal doors that blocked out any sunlight and inside it was being used more as a junk room. So Buchholtz called his friend and architect Matthieu de Marien who specializes in converting stores, offices and other spaces into homes.

The ability to utilize small space efficiently is a great skill to have. I have seen many people who suck at it.

Water Jetpack

Water skiing champion Franky Zapata developed this water jetpack that permits pilots to perform amazing stunts, including complete loops and quick jumps in and out of the water. Yeah, you will need good balancing skill and require practice, I bet.

It is available to public for 5000 euro
